A Special Blend

Musings of a young, artistic homeowner.

I thought about a PhD in Literature, French or Latin. Almost enrolled in Georgetown's MBA program. Toyed with the idea of studying graphic design. But instead I've been working on a home grown MBA and self-tutored digital illustration. I absolutely love my job in the coffee/service industry, and could hardly ask for a happier life, here fixing up my house, fiddling on my computer, smiling at my customers...Life is good. (Next stop: small business of my own?)

Oh, wow, is this beautiful...

I am lounging on our couch on Saturday morning (after a mind-blowingly hard work week). Mark is well asleep after a late night of working on his workshop. Mark's parents are here to visit for the weekend, and they too have only stirred a bit and--from the silence, I gather--fallen back to sleep. The sun has just a moment ago peaked it's early, yellowy light over the rooftops, onto my porch and through the glass panes of my front door. From my reclined position, I have the perfect view of the gauzy squares of light as they climb along the front wall, growing brighter and whiter, climbing now up our hardwood stairs. Quickly I jumped from the couch to raise the blinds on the front windows and settled back to enjoy the moment. And even now, the wakening light highlights a few stray strands of my hair, the corner of my eye, my cheek. Shadows pull out in hard stretched lines behind the glorious-standing verticals of our front porch pillars. I close my eyes and turn towards the light: I see blazing orange through my lids and am warm across my face.
J'adore les petites choses en vie.
