A Special Blend

Musings of a young, artistic homeowner.

Location: Baltimore, Maryland, United States

I thought about a PhD in Literature, French or Latin. Almost enrolled in Georgetown's MBA program. Toyed with the idea of studying graphic design. But instead I've been working on a home grown MBA and self-tutored digital illustration. I absolutely love my job in the coffee/service industry, and could hardly ask for a happier life, here fixing up my house, fiddling on my computer, smiling at my customers...Life is good. (Next stop: small business of my own?)

It occurs to me...

that everyone else diligently peppers their blogs with thoughtful entries--entirely sans pictures--spiced only with the individual's mental goings-on.
And yet, I--I, who dearly love to write down my thoughts continuosly--have not only not posted any such goings on of my mind, but I have completely neglected my personal journal at home, too. Tis strange. Somehow this picture journal (i.e. this blog), or perhaps the immense distraction of house re-finishing, has sucked all desire out me to jot down my thoughts.
Perhaps, though, it has been that my life has felt so incredibly stable lately. (Maybe bordering on stale, but not so much I think). I enjoy my job. I bring none of it home. I enjoy working on the house....Mark and I are co-habitating peacefully and pleasurably.
I guess usually I like to write when something sort of disturbs me...in this case the disturbance is the odd lack of interest in journalling...
I do also like to write when a cool phrase comes over me...but that you'll usually find in the form of a poem.
Well, thus I conclude my Sunday thoughts.

Kitchen Progress

Our lovely kitchen has been under construction since the day we moved in. Here is a sequence of pictures that follows the progression over the last month. Posted by Picasa

Sanding, sanding, sanding... Posted by Picasa

Hours of applying joint compound and sanding... Posted by Picasa

Primed walls, track lighting installed, cabinets very much missing and kitchen still completely unusable. Posted by Picasa

This is us deciding if we are really brave enough to go with Guacamole Green. We tried painting a square on a wall, then most of that wall, then most of the next wall...finally we said, You know what? Let's just go for it! Posted by Picasa

By all means, it is not finished, but we are SO almost there. (Ceiling tiles may come this week!) Posted by Picasa

Ah, the grill...we got a beautiful, out of our price range, gas grill and we have eaten from it every day since. Yesterday steaks. Tonight, hamburgers!  Posted by Picasa

Spider bites and a couple a previous mosquito bites (swelling had gone down on them)...I think I got most of these when I was vacumming every spider I could find in the basement. I sucked them up with super powerful shop-vac, but there were probably hundreds of families and I'm sure some got away and crawled up my ankle for a retaliatory chomp. Posted by Picasa

Bridal showers at the beach/park are a hit! (This was most definitely in Santa Barbara...a picture so unfortunately not possible to take in blue-less Baltimore.)

Proud home owners :) Posted by Picasa

The first piece of furniture (now there are many, many more pieces...but I'm a little behind on my posts.) Posted by Picasa

Mom and Wood came to visit. This is the street right behind ours--the way to the pub where we had lunch. Posted by Picasa

Like mother, like daughter Posted by Picasa

We discovered all sorts of things behind the drop ceiling in our kitchen...a second, very old fashioned flourescent light...it must have been one of the first flourescent lights to be designed, because the wiring done on it was OLD school. Posted by Picasa

We ripped down the ceiling in the kitchen the day we moved in--The possibility of lead paint meant dust masks...to keep the paint chips out of our mouths. Posted by Picasa

Our first house warming gift...what a treat! Posted by Picasa

I'm Alive!

Wow, we finally got our internet set up at the new house. I guess it hasn't been that long, but let me tell you...it feels like it's been interminable.

I don't really have any pictures to post (though there are MANY on my camera) because I've been so busy between work, moving, remodelling the kitchen and marrying off friends in Cali...I just haven't had time to upload :)

I hope everyone is well.
